“모모킴 작가는 1992년 서울 출생으로 뉴욕에서 일러스트레이션 전공을 하며 작품 활동을 시작했고 이후 베트남에서 잠시 거주하며 아이패드 페인팅을 알리는 뉴미디어 작업들을 했다.현재는 서울에서 활발한 작업을 한다. 동시대 일상에서 만나는 다양한 소재들을 가지고 삶의 의미와 일상의 안녕을 기원하는 작업들을 한다.

그녀의 작품에서는 사적인 공간의 일상을 담은 작업부터 소박한 야외활동의 순간까지 하나 둘 조각을 모아 개인의 삶을 대변하고 나아가 동시대 삶을 표현하고자 했다. 순수예술과 일러스트레이션 사이의 모호한 그 조우를 연출함으로써, 장식적 요소가 다분한 키치함을 보여주면서도 클래식한 아트워크의 경계를 무너트리는 작업을 한다.”

모모킴 작가는 동서양, 아날로그와 디지털이라는 상이한 매체적 지평을 넘나들며
동시대적 조형 언어를 탐구하는 작가이다.

아이패드를 활용한 스케치와 캔버스 작업을 병행함으로써,
현대성과 전통성 간의 긴장 관계를 구축하며,
변이된 튤립을 주요 모티프로 인간 존재의 미적 욕망과 생명력, 진화를 상징적으로 다룬다.

그녀의 작업은 고전 동양화의 여백성과 서양 현대회화의 색채 감각을 융합하며,
광고적 레이아웃과 상업적 이미지 언어를 차용해 현대 시각 문화를 반영한다.

회화의 물성을 탐구하는 과정에서 긁고, 비우고, 다시 채우는 반복적 행위를 통해
작가는 ‘삶’이라는 영속적 과정을 은유한다.

작품 곳곳에 삽입된 텍스트는 언어가 지닌 상징성과 긍정적 메시지를 제시하며,
보는 이로 하여금 일상과 예술, 존재의 의미를 새롭게 환기하도록 이끈다.

모모 킴의 변이된 튤립들은 개인적 경험과 집단적 기억,
그리고 삶과 예술의 경계를 부드럽게 교차시키며,
동시대 회화 안에서 고유한 서사를 구축해나가고 있다.

Momo Kim is an artist who traverses the divergent realms of East and West, as well as analog and digital media, to explore contemporary visual language.

By combining iPad-based sketches with traditional canvas work, she constructs a dynamic tension between modernity and tradition,
employing the motif of mutated tulips to symbolically address humanity’s aesthetic desires, vitality, and continuous evolution.

Her work fuses the spatial aesthetics of classical East Asian painting with the vivid color sensibilities of Western contemporary art,
incorporating commercial layouts and visual language to reflect contemporary visual culture.

Through a process of scraping, erasing, and re-layering paint,
Kim metaphorically engages with the enduring cycle of ‘life.’

Embedded texts throughout her work highlight the symbolic power of language and convey messages of positivity,
inviting viewers to reconsider the meaning of daily life, art, and existence.

Kim’s mutated tulips delicately intertwine personal experience and collective memory,
blurring the boundaries between life and art, and constructing a unique narrative within contemporary painting.
